Joan Horsfall Young was born in Toronto Canada. She studied art under Charles Goldhammer at Central Technical School and then spent 10 years studying in Europe. When she moved to California she was so taken by the characteristic light that she changed her style of painting to impressionism. She has studied with many local artists and teaches herself.
